but one thing that i think the media got wrong was the theory that those behind the riots were the black blocs, who were allegedly behind the pseudo-riot during the olympics and the protest at the g2 summit. but i highly doubt that's the case for the simple fact that the black blocs seem to have a sense of purpose and a political statement. they may be hippies by nature, but they're standing up for a cause that they can call their own. they have a reason for their actions.

the rioters yesterday were just a bunch of f#cktards who wanted to get their rocks off by breaking windows and setting cars on fire. there was no reason or purpose. it was just random mayhem and anarchy.

yeah, i think it's safe to say that this riot definitely was premeditated though. people showing up with flammables and tools tells me that they wanted to riot regardless. but we also need to call a spade a spade, this wasn't some big organised hit, it was just idiots being idiots.

what i dont get is why people even bring up the whole 'these people arent from vancouver' argument as if it has anything to do with anything. As if people from the actual city of vancouver had no part in it or somehow the people are different. You dont just cross the street and somehow your a different citizen.

i read an article yesterday about how christy clark wanted these guys "to pay", instead of getting that slap on the wrist as people usually do. the author of the article was saying how she could expect that to happen when our courts are so backed up as they are. they won't get their court time for at least a year and even then the tax payers will be paying for their representation and then their punishment as well.

sure, the riots cost the city a couple mil, but making them pay will cost the city even more.

but letting them off easy doesn't seem like the right thing to do either... what they really need to do, is they should make the rioters "pay" financially to cover the costs of the damage they incurred and the financial burden they've put on the judicial system. Unfortunately, that's just a pipe dream and all of us taxpayers get to foot the bill for everything.
