it was epic... lets just say both teams stopped skating 10 mins into the first period... and i'll give you a wild guess as to why either team did that... i think the refs stopped putting up the goals after they scored their 7th...

it was so awesome to watch the puck go into our net time and time again and the looking around only to realise that our forwards left us dmen down low out numbered 3-1, 4-2, 4-1 every time... JT was the only forward causing any noise up front... he scored a pretty sweet drag move goal though...

i think the final score was 13-3 and that's flattering us since they let up and pretty much let us touch the puck whenever we could...

oh, and they started passing it to their goalie just so he could play around with the puck... and there were 5 face offs in a row where their guy tried to draw the puck at their goalie to shoot at his own net... just for fun...

lame...

it was uber pwnage....

like seriously, short of having jai on the back end, our full compliment of dmen were there... and it was still useless...

frick, not to complain about the forwards (i know i know, the whole d vs forward bitching is so unnecessary) but literally every goal they scored, there was no support down low, and nobody short of the usual suspects back checked... ON TOP of that, there was no one to pass to... it just seems like the forwards expect us to skate the puck up everytime one of us dmen touches the puck... there's no one to pass to because they turn their backs to us and our zone and start heading up the ice... even if they're open for a pass, 80% of them can't receive it because their backs are to us and they don't open themselves up for a pass...

ugh... just venting... nothing personal... just was a tough game last night...

we really need to be bumped down... even if brendon was there, it would've been useless...

we really don't have many guys on forward who can create offence, plus we don't play positions well (or at all depending on who is on the ice). and the guys we do have, are getting out skated, out worked, out skilled. we don't belong in tier3 and never have... even more so now that a bunch of tier 2 teams have been tiered down.

playing forward is seriously a gongshow this year. people not showing, subs unable to fill in...we've maybe only had 3 or 4 at most games where we have even lines, so nobody knows who they are playing with and positions are all over the place. it wouldn't be so bad if people talked to eachother out there...

I had fun. as i usually do when i play hockey. we have been getting owned a lot lately, but playing against guys better than you is the only way to get better.

regarding positions and stuff, the rudimentry problem is we don't really teach/coach hockey we just yell at people when they do the wrong stuff. even explaining to them after they get off is not really going to help a person. It takes a lot of practise to learn where you should be and understand how the play unfolds. And even then there is no perfect rules for every situation. That's what makes hockey so awesome. It's such a fast game, but there's also a mental component to it.

There's also things that I believe just can not be taught. Some people will just be able to see things that others cannot.

I know losing can be frustrating, but if our focus becomes on our team and individual play improving then playing against opponents that are better than us can be pretty rewarding.

tiering down will solve all your problems of not being adequate as a whole team no matter how good everyone thinks they are.

if you are serious about using the dropins for atb to practise their hockey skills and knowledge, then you should just use it as such. Charge additional for the registration, and set aside a couple of saturdays exclusively for atb to practise and work on things. It'll be in their interest to show up to something they already paid for.
