so this game is going to be free to play now. no subscription. apparently walmart is selling copies of this game for 5 cents too... PC client is d/l for free i think... let me know if any of you guys try it. i may give it a try too... but i don't really have much time lately.

so i checked yesterday. you can d/l the pc client at no cost... unfortunately i am not sure if you can d/l the ps3 client off of psn... or at least i didn't see it on there for free. you might still have to pay for 1 month of their "premium" service just to get it.

its not bad for a free game. it seems like a full game for free right now.

at this stage it doesn't seem like i am missing out on anything by not having a "premium" pay account... but i suppose gear and such plays a very small part starting out.

i ran one "instance" or event as it was called in game. 4 guys taking down scarecrow. basically a simple boss encounter. it was sort of like a WoW end game raid boss, with there being several phases to the encounter.

they seem to have a queuing system much like WoW to so need to party up prior to going.

roles are a bit simplified to damage and controller. a controller is the healer/buffer for the party i believe. i think any type of hero/villan can play either role. when you queue for an instance you select your role. i think the majority of your skills/powers have a controller effect and a damage effect given the type of role you selected.

anyways at this point given it's price, if you have some free time it's a worthwhile try. at least until D3 comes out.

also one feature that i have noticed is not available to free players is recieving items from ingame mail. i have received two quest rewards via the mail system but cant get them b/c of the f2p access level.

one cool thing about the game i noticed so far is "styles"... so any new gear you get is added to you listing of styles. So you can use the "model" for any of your acquired items, without having to actually equip that item. Where as in WoW, to have a specific look you'd have to keep those items in inventory and equip them always. If a newer set of items looks lame you can get the benefit of it without having the ugly look of it. The models will always adapt to your color customization for your character too, so if you have a batmanesque pallet for instance, all black/gray with a yellow utility belt, you'll always have that same color scheme.
