anyone even hear of this? ever since the original series ended in the 80's, every gi joe spin off show sucked. some of the comics were good, but the cartoons just plain sucked.

anyway, i heard about this new series that just started in november on hasbro's new channel, HUB. i saw the first episode last night and i have to say that it's actually pretty good. a little darker, more violent, and seems to be oriented to an older audience too. totally rewrote the origin stories, but tried to keep the characters in tact. they borrow some stuff from the live action movie (MARS weapons, ripcord, cobra commander's face) but that didn't bother me too much. the offshoot story was interesting enough, however completely unbelievable.

as for transfomers prime, it's a cg cartoon that started at the same time. and it SUCKED. i watched the first episode and deleted the torrents for the rest. obviously written for a younger audience but tries to cater to the bandwagon fans who liked the live action movie. they couldn't get the licensing to use real cars i assume so the car modes look similar to the movie but different in a dumb way. i was really disappointed in it. so much so that i'm not even going to bother putting up the trailer for it.

oh, and they kill people, so i guess that's a little different. but it doesn't quite have the impact as the 1985 movie which was hands down the greatest transformers movie by light years.

Too bad they didn't make cartoon series based on some of the comics. I liked the comic where the GI Joes had control over the Transformers. I think that would've made an awesome cartoon series.

they actually had like 3-4 transformer/gi joe crossovers. the best were the dw comics ones, they made some good stories (like how snake eyes killed starscream with his sword lol).

i think the CG detail for this cartoon is actually pretty impressive... I watched the 5 part mini-series that kicked off the show i think its actually not too bad. the human parts are a bit lame but the animation is really top notch... it's the best that i've seen on a tv series, plus its in HD.

they use the live action universe of transformers for this...

maybe it's because i really really really really really really really really really really don't like the live action movies, but i couldn't stand the series.

what i wish is that they would make a new series based on the g1 transformers. that would be so freaking sweet. sorta like how image comics brought back the original characters but made new(ish) stories. they were the best.

they do have a bit of a mix of g1 characters... they just had an episode with wheeljack on it and he was the G1 version, although he never actually transformed and it doesn't seem like he'll be a regular character... not sure why they have shied away from using more than 4-5 characters in these transformers series anymore.. one of the cool things about G1 was there were so many different guys.

that's one thing that's cool about gi joe renegades. they have some of the original characters pop in here and there. they had zartan and the dreadnoks, destro, firefly, major bludd, barbecue and law and order. it was pretty cool.

oh, so i have the full season of gi joe renegades if anyone wants it. i didn't finish watching it yet, but it's been pretty good so far. well, except that snake eyes is the end all be all of all the joes, i don't know why the rest even bother.

and i guess transformers prime is picking up steam too. i saw some toys for that line the other day.

portable harddrive? sounds excessive. but if you have other things on that harddrive that we can swap, then sure.

I can't imagine all those episodes would fit into a 2GB flash drive.

um. i think they're about 300mb each. there are 22 episodes i think. so probably not.

So that's 6-7gb total then... unless you have a 8GB usb drive, I'll probably have to bring my portable drive.
And sure, you can copy whatever movies I have on there.
