that article about crappy actors and no movies stars got me thinking about this. so to counter the "garbage movies" thread, who's among your favourite actors? like, which movies would you go see just because this actor is in it?
for me, i would almost always watch a johnny depp movie, not so much because he's a good actor (he's ok), but he always looks so cool in his movies.
and i always want to watch wil smith movies for some strange reason.
but actor-wise, i have a lot of respect for christian bale right now. his job in the fighter was superb, and thinking about batman, terminator and american psycho, i think he probably one of the best out there right now.
what say you?

dunno if i'd watch a movie just b/c a certain actor/actress is in it. but the ones that i rank up there include:
tom hanks
clint eastwood
meryl streep
i also agree bale has really impressed lately, but i think it will take another couple of year to see if he'll be a mainstay.
here are a few that looked promising, but due to some horrible movie choices have fallen off the wagon in my opinion:
anthony hopkins
russell crowe
kevin spacey
harrison ford (on indiana jones 4 alone... not that he does any movies anymore)

For guys that don't need to carry a movie on their own, I've always enjoyed roles (big or small) that have been played by Kevin Spacey, Gabriel Byrne, Daniel Day Lewis, Giovanni Ribisi, John Cusack, William H Macy or Morgan Freeman.
As for actual acting ability and picking roles that allow their abilities to be showcased. Chrisitian Bale and Leo

I agree with Johnny Depp movies, although there have been a couple that were kind of bad, like the Tourist or Pirates 4.
Also, for some reason I will always watch Nicolas Cage movies. Not because I think he's a good actor, but because it's kind of fun to see what kind of train wreck of a movie it will be. He has this very distinct look that doesn't fit in a lot of roles, but then they give him these roles anyway. Like an assassin, a wizard, a hell-bound motorcyle rider, a medieval knight.... none of those fit his look!

i think jim carrey is a bit underrated and will just never be able to live down ace venutra. I think he was actually pretty good in a few of his less comedic roles.

I don't think there's any movie that I'd see just because of an actor that's in it. That said, here are a few that would probably come the closest:
Bruce Willis
Drew Barrymore
Denzel Washington
Morgan Freeman
Harrison Ford

man alive did joel ever whore this thread up.
yeah, i think tom hanks is pretty good, but i don't remember him in anything lately.
i think i'd watch a movie with samuel l. jackson in it just because he's samuel l. mutha effin jackson.
oh, and i'd watch any jet li movie. not because he's a good actor, but because he can kick some serious ass.
