Lol, when I saw the first trailer, I thought it was a joke. Then this trailer came out, and it looked awesome.
Apparently, the book is supposed to be awesome. The same author wrote "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies". Sounds like my kinda books, haha.

One of their presidents as a bad-ass vampire killer? I think there'd be more Americans embracing the idea rather than think it's offensive.
That being said - isn't there a lot of literature that uses real historical figures in fictitious stories? I guess nothing quite as outlandish as a frontier times president as a vampire hunter though.

i don't know much about books, but i wonder how often one of the american greats would be portrayed this way.
usually if it involves a US president, they make one up (independence day, wild wild west, the last samurai, 24, etc). i thought that was so they're not offending anyone by skewing history. from what i understand, american history is pretty big for americans.
having said that, they've obviously made the movie so i guess it can't be that offensive. i'm curious as to what the critics will say and how the box office would fare.

i guess you have to be in the mood to watch it. it's one of those turn off brain and enjoy type movies. there's nothing exceptional about it, but i was entertained.

I just watched it. I thought it was pretty entertaining... Lots of killing and fighting. Nice fighting choreography.
Just a note though - the movie doesn't follow the book at all. It's just very loosely based on it.

there's no one-armed black guy, no swearing kid from transformers, and no sentient robot.
there are robots, a creator of robots, and a robot psychologist though.

I actually think, for Vampire Hunter at least, that it was better that they didn't follow the book exactly. Following the book exactly would've made the movie under scrutiny for not being true to the book. Making up a relatively new story that's loosely based on the book gives it a new spin to the story. Following the book would've meant less action in the movie anyway.
