watched this over the weekend.
i was not very impressed with this movie.
to be honest, the plot themes seemed a bit played out at this point. maybe it's just me, but it seems like every spiderman movie i've seen has that same underlying theme, the sacrifice of being a hero, etc... it's a good theme generally, but when it's played out over and over again with the same characters, i dunno it just seems like too stale.
the special effects were probably the highlight of the movie. it was pretty cool to see how they depicted electro and his powers in this movie.
the acting is generally good, but very under utilized. stone and garfield continue to have amazing chemistry on screen. though i can't really imagine stone having bad chemistry with anyone on screen. the part they wrote for jamie foxx seems to completely under utilize his talents and they really don't bother developing his character at all.
you spidey fans will probably applaud how certain plot points follow the original comics, which are ideas that could have potentially been very interesting to explore, but the story just really fails all around from my perspective.
the most interesting take on this verison of spiderman for me has been the parents arch, but they don't go particularly deep into that sub-plot either.
with it's box office success, i'm sure there will be a third installment. and they dropped some obvious sinister six hints in this movie. But for me, i'm even less excited to see it, since I think they've lost the best part of this series.
I'd give this movie a 2 out of 4 stars.
