I was reading reviews on this... it's still a new and unproven concept. They came out with a Hybrid in 2007, but that concept didn't really work that well.
This new one from Seagate uses an SSD as a buffer, but does not use the SSD as storage or workable space. It only has a 4GB SSD for the buffer, so it's kind of like an HDD with dedicated RAM.
Benchmark tests show slight improvement in read/write times over a comparable 2.5" drive, but it still does not outperform a 3.5" drive. Power consumption and heat improved a bit.
