Shaun's Goal

Time to get serious about a better lifestyle

Re: Shaun's Goal

Week of Feb 27:
M - 14
Th- 5
Sa- 17.5

Week of March 6:
M - 13.5
T - 6
Th- 23

Week of March 13:
Su - 28.5
?
?
?

In the last 7 days I ran four times for a total of 71kms.
It looks like I'm now pretty much back as far as distance is concerned, but my speed is way down.
Too slow for a 4hr marathon. Need to shave off 12s per km... which should(?) be possible. Most of that time was lost waiting at lights.

5 weeks to go before the 2 weeks of taper.

Week of March 13:
Su - 28.5
Tu - 6
We - 6x440 hills

Week of March 20:
Su - 11km of failure. Supposed to be 32k. No sleep. Big disappointment
Tu - 30km. Slow
Fr - 5km. Speed intervals

Week of March 27:
Su - 24.5km. Slow.
?
?

The March 20th run was supposed to be a 32km run through portions of the BMO Marathon course but 3hrs of sleep simply didn't cut it. Gave up after 6 and just slow jogged back.

Wanted to try a 32km run later in the week and decided to go on the Tuesday. Made it to 27km where I completely ran out of water so I stopped at 30. Last 3km were kinda tough and so I decided to quit before I got into some medical trouble. As it was, when I looked in the mirror when I got back, my first thought was, "Did I just have blueberries?" My lips and fingernails were blue. (It wasn't that cold out). Probably a real good thing I stopped when I did.

Only two more big runs (29,32) and two weeks of taper before I have to run the equivalent of 105.5 laps around the track.

Not feeling ready.

Week of March 27:
Su - 24.5km. Slow.
Tu - 6km - Good quick run up Southridge
We - 10km - Fartleks
Fr - Easy squat workout. DOMS for three days after though.

Week of April 3:
Su - 28km. Closer to race-pace. Felt pretty good after, but... this is only 2/3 of a marathon.
Tu - 6km. Good quick run up Southridge. Quicker (and easier) than previous week.
We - 7.5km - Fartleks/Sprint workout.

Gonna try to get in another run either today or tomorrow.

Bought a 2L Camelbak. Running with almost 6lbs of water is definitely noticeable, but at least I didn't have to worry about running out.

A 32km is planned for Sunday. I've been considering trying to extend it an additional 2-3km. This will be the last long run before the taper.

I wish I had another three weeks.
Not feeling ready.
Quite psyched out.
Kinda hope I don't die.
Should probably make out my will soon. j/k... sorta.

It's still great progress despite all your set backs.

Keep it up, and regardless of how you feel, you probably should have a will by now anyways :)

keian's goal was to have surgery.

but it's true, shaun's the only one that stuck to his goal, but then i have i this feeling that shaun has been at his goals way longer than we even thought of trying to eat 10 cheeseburgers in 30 minutes.

everyone else sucks.

Week of April 10:
Su - 33km. Slow and kinda tough. The real bright side to this run was that I survived it despite sabotaging it.
Tu - 6km. Good recovery run.
We - 7.5km - Fartleks/Sprint workout.
Fr - 7.0 - Easy run @ marathon race pace.

Week of April 17:
Su - 10km. Sun Run. 10km personal best @ 46:11. Not bad considering I wasn't really trying until the last km... but boy was I trying in the last kilometer!
Tu - 6km marathon race pace. Somehow messed up my knee on Sunday... possibly while getting in my car after the race. Still sore. I think I'm screwed.
Thr - 3.5km marathon race pace. Knee still buggered.
Sa - 6km marathon race pace. Trying to prepare myself mentally for the possible disappointment of being too injured to run the marathon.

fwiw, re Knee Injury:
I'm no doctor but I think I strained one of the ligaments connected to the fibular head. I can still walk and do every day activities without much discomfort, but I certainly cannot run for 4 hours. Hopefully it'll heal in time... God willing.

That sucks Shaun.

I wouldn't really push that knee too much more. Better to get it looked at and fit in some healing time. Then get a head start for the next race instead.

I did the marathon.
Came in 4:04:43. May have been able to come in under 4hrs if my left quads didn't start cramping @ 36km... maybe not though. Oh well.

Thanks Jai. It was a pretty close thing. My knee and calf were still really sore on Wednesday. Quite painful to even touch. I had to call my parents and tell them to cancel their hotel reservations. Thursday evening rolled around and I was like, hmmm... maybe. Luckily they hadn't cancelled their hotel reservations yet.

Yeah, I'll be taking it easy the rest of the month. Maybe do some light biking... weather permitting.

Two more running goals for 2011
Half marathon in 100 minutes. (1:40:59 counts)
10K in under 45 minutes.

My best chance for the Half goal is this Sunday as it's a downhill course even though I don't really feel as ready as I'd like.
