Missed it by 'that' much.
'that' = 88 seconds.

No kidding. It basically came down to a 3km stretch between kilometers 13 and 16 where I lost my focus and got off pace. Oh well... can't complain too much about a 4 minute personal best.

Good to hear you are still pushing yourself so hard to reach that next level. Just looking at your progress from your sig over the past 2 years is very impressive and inspiring.

hey shaun, i always wondered how exact these run measurements are and how they actually measure it. Do they take one of those wheels and have someone actually walk/run 10km worth and mark the start/end?

I mean, if they're off in their measurements by even 2-300m, that could affect your time no?

i would think that making good lines around corners and stuff could affect your time too, but i have a feeling that they just look at a map and then draw a course.

Most of the races I run are certified. They get guys with properly calibrated bicycles riding the routes taking the best line as possible. Each kilometer they pass they take note of the location and document it taking pictures in some cases as well. ie. 3 meters behind the manhole at such and such intersection. The certifications are only valid for so many years before they need to get the course remeasured.

So yeah, the courses are actually quite accurate. Then they add on an extra 100m or so to be safe.

*Edit:
They don't add an extra 100m. They add an extra .1%

Peaked two weeks too early and burned out... or something.
Horrible TT 10k. Worse time than last year.

Gonna be a long 6 weeks until my next chance to redeem myself.

Sorry to hear things did not go as hoped. I hope it does not discourage you, and only motivates you for your next race. Keep it up!

It really kinda bummed me out. I was looking forward to taking it easy for a couple of months before starting my marathon training in January, but it looks like I'll have to keep going until the end of November.

I think I've read that it's best to take some time off each year. Training hard year-round can lead to overtraining and burnout.
That's not to say that you stop altogether, but rather you just take it easy for a month or two.

Even hockey players play golf in the summer. ;)
