Unless we're naturally gifted or we played minor hockey growing up, it's pretty hard to have that kinda poise and skill to be good dmen. what i find the hardest to master for bums like us is skill of skating with your eyes in front and assessing open ice and having your head on a swivel while stick handling the puck without it bobbling off your blade. To compensate for this, a trick i try to drill into my own game is take a good look around you before you pick up the puck. This helps me because we all look down when we pick up the puck and if there isn't time to look up, and you're gonna make a "blind" pass, i know generally where people are already.
