Swimming?

Postby joel » Tue Jan 11, 2011 3:06 pm

So I thought I might give this a try. I think the pools should be open so anyone up for going swimming.
Schedule-wise I am thinking Saturday or Sunday, maybe early morning. But I am pretty flexible with both time and day.

I'd like to start this weekend if anyone is interested.

Which pool were you thinking?

i'm good with any pool.. it's been more than a decade since i've been to a swimming pool, so i have no clue which one is good.

id prefer one that's not too busy especially b/c i can't swim yet and probably easier to learn when i'm not fighting for pool space.

Watermania in Richmond:
50m pool - sometimes they have the bulkhead set up so it becomes 2 25m pools. 1 for lap swimming, 1 for public swimming.
I believe there's also a wave-pool for the kids and a 20m warm-up pool.
This is my favorite of the three locations that I've been to, even if it is a tad more expensive and a bit further away.
I also like it better because they have a more consistant day-day schedule, whereas other pools only have lap swimming at (seemingly) random days/times that is hard (if not impossible) to remember. ie. from 6-9 MTF, 3-5MWTh, 7pm-9pm WSa, etc. (Note: I made up the days and times however, the randmonness in the schedules is accurate.)

Bonsor:
1 25m pool. I found it to be fairly busy, but there was usually enough room for me. :) Weekends were rather nuts. When I went they only had like 2 lap lanes open and the rest was for Public Swimming.

Canada Games Brown pool - New Westminster
I've only been there a few times, and I've found it to be quite chlorinated.
My least favorite of the three. It just seems... dirty to me. Dunno why.

Sounds like Joel is looking for a Public Swim (vs Lap swimming). ie. Treading water > swimming back and forth in endless laps. Just something to keep in mind.

You should check online for pool availability.

we took ryan to kensington pool once (that park by dave's house on 33rd and knight), and during the day it was DEAD. some old people doing aqua aerobics or something, but it's mainly a lap pool. the water is a little warmer (for kids and seniors) and water only gets to be about 4 ft i think, so not a problem for non-swimmers.

The pool at UBC is nice. Has enough lanes that it's pretty much only 2 ppl per lane. The play area is almost the size of Killarney alone.

Canada games pool is one of the oldest pools, maybe that's why it feels dirty.

Is the "brown" part of the name an adjective or is it actually called Brown Pool?

I tried the Killarney pool before and it's not bad.. But I think a public swim is probably the best option for wherever we go

Ok, I think I was confused.
The pool I was refering to was the Canada Games Pool in New Westminster.

Turns out, I never actually went to the C.G. Brown Memorial pool in Burnaby.

I thought they were one and the same. I guess C.G. <> Canada Games

ubc is nice but super deep. not for beginners.

i get confused between cg brown and eileen daily or whatever. which is the one we took the kids to dunc? whichever it was, i don't think it's that good of a lap pool with the kids area and water slides and all.

the chlorine in the water would be good for curing diseases like the one you got.
