Woohoo... I guess that really means that I should start training. Are you going to camp it or are you going to join us at the motel?

Yep, time to start training. I had some questions so I requested more info from their website. A guy called me and let me register for $25. You might be able to do the same.

I'm not sure about the motel, but I'd kinda rather not camp out in the pouring rain. Where will you be staying?

Days Inn baby. Nothing but first class for us.

U gotta stay at the Ramada Inn. Free dinner every night. Wings and beer Wednesday.

are you guys part of a team? if not, one of my congregation members heads up the rjc engineering team (they raise millions across canada). i think you get a snazzy jersey and a cool command center (based out of a ford excursion i think).

can you pass a few of our catalogues to him so he can pass it on to some of the designers?

how did it go?

I'll let Jay talk about his ride but mine went alright.

The first day was cold, wet, windy, and rough. I was hoping to get through the ride with only one pit stop (to refill my bottles) but by the 100km I was bonking. Took a second break, and ate a Clif bar but the damage was pretty much done. I spent the rest of the ride looking for someone to draft off of. In the last 5k or so I finally caught up to someone I had previously passed and decided to stick with him to the end. And then I shivered under the heat lamps for a couple of hours. I found the first day a little lonely going for long periods of time without seeing another cyclist. Kinda disappointed that they didn't have any food at the finish of the first day... or at least not when I got there. A banana, an orange... pretty much anything would have been nice. You can only drink so much hot chocolate.

The second day was nicer. A little drizzle here and there but it wasn't too bad. The route was much smoother and the wind was sheltered by the trees and stuff. My neck and shoulders were pretty sore from the first day and kinda forced me to ride in the drops. It's odd that the most comfortable position for me was the one that's usually least comfortable for most people. But as it's pretty much the most aerodynamic position you can get, I wasn't too hard on myself.

We had a late start so there was never a real end to the cyclists up ahead. The perfect balance between not being lonely and not feeling crowded.

I didn't eat enough for breakfast (two bananas and a glass of orange juice) and I was feeling quite sluggish for the first half, but after my first pit stop at 50k, and downing a clif bar and a bunch of Gatorade, I perked up. After the hills around the 90k mark I caught up to a bunch of pretty decent cyclists while they were waiting at lights so I hung out with them pretty much until the end.

Today my neck, shoulders, and quads are pretty stiff but other than that, I'm feeling pretty good.
