Shaun's Goal

Currently:

155 lbs. 10.3% body fat

PBs:
21.1km downhill race- 1:46:20 (5:02 /km)
20.4km flat training run- 1:44:24 (5:08 /km)
21.0km rolling training run- 1:49:14 (5:11 /km)

Target Dates:
May 1, 2011 (BMO Vancouver Marathon) or May 29, 2011 (Scotia Calgary Marathon)

Goal:
A full marathon in under 4 hours (5:41 /km). As I am still a relatively new runner I am unsure if it is wise for me to attempt a full marathon at this time, but I intend to try and just play it by ear. If my body says no, then no.
If I am unable to complete the marathon training, the goal will be to complete the BMO Vancouver Half Marathon in under 1:47:00 (5:04 /km) and would be a 14 minute improvement over my 2010 time... which was a bomb. This is a challenge due to the ~1 mile long climb up to Prospect Point.

Official Start date: January 4, 2011 (?)

Plan:

Try not to lose too much fitness running 2-3 times a week (weather permitting) until the end of December.
Join the RunningRoom Marathon clinic in January and try to stick to their training plan.

Planned daily caloric intake: Whatever it takes to improve my times. Experimentation will be involved.

Ran 7km today. Cold. Marathon training in weather like this is going to be tough.

Went for a short 17km bike ride today. Fell twice. How embarrassing. Probably should leave the clipless pedals for the long (uninterrupted) rides and just use regular pedals for these stop and go rides.

I suck.

i don't think it's you that sucks, it's the pedals that suck.

and i'd hardly think that 17km is short. i don't even drive that far on a slow day at work.

Apparently, falling with clipless pedals is a rite of passage, so I guess I shouldn't take it too hard. At least I wasn't all dressed up in spandex when it happened. haha.

Still... I went and bought platform pedals today.

Hmmm.... Well, I kinda hurt my hip when I fell. Since it seems like a very similar type of injury to the one that I had at the beginning of the year (which took 4-5 months plus regular chiro appointments before I was able to run again without re-injury ), I've been taking it very easy lately. Even though it feels ok right now, and has for the last few days, I've decided to not risk further injury and to just wait until my other minor bruises and abrasions heal before I go running.

In the meantime, I tried to get in as much cycling as I could while the weather was nice. It's not the same though.

Sadly, I ate a bag of chips yesterday. Also, the forecast is predicting two weeks of solid rain after which time I will be on vacation for two weeks.

Needless to so, I'm well behind in my goal already.

Biked a total of 36km last week and did two short runs to test out my hip. 5km, 7km. Seemed good.
Today I ran ~14km. Nice and slow... trying to find a pace that I think I can maintain for ~4 hours. I just have to do that two more times and the marathon would be done. haha.
