I love me some good fried spam, but alas, like shark's fin soup, it's another one of my favorite foods that I will now need to give up.
Just so you know, pig brains only go into sausage and not spam.
It's a long read but very informative. I can't believe that this is still happening in the new millenium.

I thought this was going to be one of those write-ups like that how they make chicken nuggets one to gross us out about how they make spam.

Underpaid illegal immigrants put in an unsafe work environment for the sake of the bottom dollar.

It is about Hormel, the creators of SPAM and also somewhat of a justification for unions today as apparently, there are still some companies that just don't give a rat's ass about their employees. I dislike unions as much as most of you, but it's companies like Hormel that still justify the existence of unions. Kind of a crossover from the conversation here

if we're talking illegal immigrants then we're talking about a whole other ball of wax. and i don't know what the labour laws are like in the states, but in bc i think they're pretty good (from what i know of them at least).

I haven't read the article but by J's summary it kinda sounds like it might be similar to the following articles (which I haven't read, just skimmed very quickly, either):
UN Finds Canada and Ontario Violate Human Rights
http://www.justicia4migrantworkers.org/bc/news.htmlOkanagan fruit pickers’ poor conditions a growing concern
http://ubyssey.ca/features/agriculture- ... g-concern/Mexican migrant agricultural workers and accommodations on farms in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia
http://riim.metropolis.net/assets/uploa ... P11-04.pdfBringing in Mexicans to do the work that no sane Canadian would do ... hmmm.... makes one wonder.

You can't unionize illegal immigrant workers. That's one of the reasons why dirty companies use them.

Who said they were illegal immigrants?

I guess it doesn't directly say that he was an illegal immigrant.. I was just interpreting this part of the article:
There is no Matthew Garcia.
Or, rather, Matthew Garcia is not his name. It's the made-up name I've given him to shield him from Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

I think the article implied somewhere that ~75% of the workforce @ QPP was illegal.
