kobo or kindle?

the idea is that reading off the cloud allows you to read from whatever device you want at any time. the kobo does that too, but i think you have to actively sync with your account or something. the kobo also has expandable memory, so if you ever do run out of room (with all the apps), you can still fit books. the kindle is 8gb on board, so that's easily filled up with movies and apps, and it has no expandable memory.

turns out that winnie won't read off her ipad, it's too freaking huge.

but now with the kobo glo out with its positive reviews, i'm seriously considering it. the kindle came out with a paperwhite, which is supposed to be better all around hardware-wise (but just slightly from what i read), but we still run into the same problem with kindles not exactly being too supported up here in the great white north.

and at $129 everywhere i looked, it's not really going to break the bank. i just hope she'll let me buy an intake for my car haha.

i have the kindle app for my phone. You can adjust the size of the fonts. Can change the background colour as well. Works ok. Still perfer the actual book, but when your travelling it works great.

yeah, she has a kindle app for her phone too, but her problem is that the screen is so small. she wants something bigger and the fact that the glo is front lit instead of back, it's much easier on the eyes when reading at night (which she does a lot).

actually, the phone was a screen size thing. the ipad was a device size thing. she reads off the ipad just fine. she just doesn't want to have to hold that honking thing up while lying in bed.

she doesn't want the mini for a number of reasons.
1) feels like sh!t in your hand (too light and flimsy feeling)
2) last year's tech (at this year's price)
3) too expensive (even if it were this year's tech)
4) doesn't want to sell ipad (because ryan loves it so much)

i did suggest that option when they announced the mini but she wasn't in favour.

Ended up getting her the kobo glo. She loves it, says the size is perfect. The lame thing that we had to exchange it already for freezing issues. Stupid kobo. The second one seems fine though, she said it's way faster and more responsive.
