overall it's ok.

the quality is a bit better than i was expecting but still down from their thinkpad line.
the temps seem to run ok even under load, but there is a decent amount of hot air coming out of the left vent.
battery life is probably under 5 hours on min settings\low load
win8 still requires getting used to
should have special order a regular keyboard, instead of buying stuck with this multilingual one.

overall relatively happy, i knew the quality wouldn't be as good, but can't complain about the price.

Haha, yeah... I hate those multilingual keyboards. The Enter and Shift keys and a few others aren't the same size/shape or in the same location as a regular keyboard.

Good to hear that it's a half decent notebook.

i've tried out CS at max settings and runs smooth, WOW at pretty high settings and getting 50+ fps. this is all at stock speeds. i am thinking of getting a larger msata and running that hard drive as the primary, rather than as a cache hybrid right now. not sure if it's worth the extra monies. it seems fairly responsive now. just curious on how much better it can get.

I just got most of the basics installed on my computer, and the programs that are installed on the SSD come up almost instantly.
I can go from off to Windows login screen in under 30 secs.

That reminds me of some pic I saw of a ThinkPad that some guy put electrical tape around it so it said iPad haha.

so i've had my y500 for over a month now. I guess i am pretty happy with it since it does what i need it to so far... looking at carson's macbook pro does make me a bit envious... it was actually thinner than I first thought and the 15" is actually thinner than the 13".

but i did just receive my redflagsdeal rebate in the mail tho', so i did end up with a tad more power(minus the retina) for about half the cost, so there is that...

I personally enjoyed the cost savings of a PC over a Mac.

i guess it depends on how much the retina display is worth to you.
i personally really dig it, but i don't know if it's worth all that money for my uses.
