i personally don't see what the hype is about christmas. i think i'd prefer easter as my "look forward to" holiday (even though easter is waaaaaaaaaaay busier for me).
what is your preference?

"Look forward to"... hmmmm.... Christmas is the big one in my family. I'm not sure I really look forward to it though. Between my birthday, Christmas, and New Years, sometimes it's just too much celebrating. and I dread the whole thing.

you dread celebrating? or just dread being with family? sometimes it's tough to do christmas with my family. it's so big that i don't know all their names... and that's when it gets awkward.

I'm not a real fan of the whole extended family thing. I don't like small talk. I don't want to talk about how I'm still single. I don't want to talk about how I still don't have a job. I don't want to talk about how I don't have a clue what I want to do. And that's about what all my relationships with extended family have degenerated to. I used to be close with them, not any longer.
The main thing, though, is that it's tough to be around UP people and expected to be UP yourself, when you're feeling d-o-w-n. The whole contrast just makes me even d-o-w-n-e-r.

That sucks... does that mean that you don't like being around us either?

Sometimes I just want to be left alone. With you guys, I have that option. If I just want to stay home, I can. If I want to leave, I just do. Back home for Christmas I don't have those options. I'm under someone else's schedule.

when family asks me questions about parts of my life that i'm not happy about, i just answer with parts of my life that i am happy about. you could talk about all those run statistics in your signature, or all those plants you've successfully planted, or the fact that you could not work for 6 or so months and still not be homeless (i'd also bring up that you're a pretty good forum moderator too but i don't know how much they'd care about that lol).

i look forward to christmas for obvious reasons haha...
but yea, i know what you mean about annoyances of extended family... believe it or not, it's even worse when you're married... not dissing alicia's side of the family, but some of them are pretty messed up and/or annoying... i grew up with a small small local family so i never had issues with family dinners... until i got married haha

it's kinda ironic how almost everyone (except for those annoying UP ppl like you mentioned shaun) loathe big family gatherings and yet everyone comes to them...

i don't loathe them. i look forward to them sometimes because that's the only time i see some of my cousins. we usually have a good time at christmas, which is basically the only time we see each other.
