So I've been going back and forth with Duncan about this... he's trying to tempt me to get a new computer to play Diablo 3. I really want to play Diablo 3, but then I don't want to get a new computer just for that.

I find that I don't use my computer very often anymore, especially not for gaming. The PC gaming market has shriveled up quite a bit, so PC games are pretty scarce. That being the case, getting a new computer to play Diablo 3 would be just like paying $600-$700 (minimum) to play one game. It'd be a different situation if there were other games in the future that I could possibly use a new upgraded computer for, but so far in the past 5 years, it's only been Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 that my old computer hasn't been able to handle.

Anyway - I choose not to get a new computer.

I thought this or that is so people can chime in with their opinion of the two choices given. I didn't know it was to help the thread starter to make a decision.

honestly, i've only been trying to tempt you to buy a comp because you're always the one who tries to tempt me to buy something i dont need lol...

but i agree, the pc gaming market is drying up. That being said, a pleasant side benefit i didn't even think about when i upgraded my video card to play d3 was that watching my 1080p home videos do seem a bit crisper/clearer and smoother. Before, every once in a while, the picture would lag a bit or look out of sync with the sound because the video was trying to catch up. $100 well spent...

i wouldn't spend 600-700 on a new PC to play D3. I also don't think it's worth bothering with the ps3 release, if it takes upwards past 6 months either.

the biggest appeal for diablo3 for me is the multiplayer, which realistically may have died off considerable by that time and if there's no cross platform playability and everyone i know played the pc version anyways...

if i could get some minor upgrades to play i would do it, maybe tops around a 100 investment... but recall people mentioning have old video cards/parts that they are no longer using, but probably still capable of running the game.

also surprised that your system could run wow, but can't run sc2 or d3.

i also think estimates of 600-700 min to run d3 is an overestimate. the laptop below could easily run it, and it's priced 500$ pre-tax, i'd assume a pc part budget upgrade of about 250$ or less could get your there. d3 will apparently run on some of the intel integrated graphic cards even. so it may only be mb/cpu/ram upgrade only.

i would probably at least get a guest pass from someone and try to install to test if it could run on my system before going out and buying something though.

i have my old video card that's capable of playing d3 on low graphics... you can try it out w/ a guest pass
