Good quality camera phone vs point and shoot camera

I know that using just photo quality to compare a camera phone with point and shoot, a point and shoot would no doubt win. However, if you throw convenience and functionality into the equation, the difference in photo quality might not be a big issue anymore.
For the average person posting a pic on Facebook, using their smartphone camera might have more benefits that outweigh good photo quality of a point and shoot. On a smartphone, you can do basic photo editing, post directly to social sites without having to transfer pics to your computer (I think only some higher end point and shoot cameras have that function), and you have your phone with you all the time anyway so a camera is readily accessible.
Besides, the photo quality of the iPhone isn't that bad... all these pics are taken with an iPhone 4s:

if you're posting on facebook, of course the camera on your phone is good enough. if you're going to the store to buy a loaf of bread, a pinto is good enough too. however, if you're wanting to capture a moment in a way that is visually pleasing, the camera on your phone will suck major ass compared to even a cheap pas camera.
it comes down to how much light is allowable in the lens and the image sensor. given a phone's average size, neither would be very large and so the image suffers. not to mention the awful lag in the shutter and the inevitable noise from the insane iso levels. sure, you can use the flash, but how many phones have any kind of usable flash?
but of course, the convenience of a camera phone is second to none. who actually carries a camera around with them everywhere? not many people, really.

granted, the iphone 4s camera is much better than most, but in general, i wouldn't say that photo quality was 25%. probably less.

For most people a camera phone is all they need. For everybody else, they have both.

yeah, i would agree with that. most people don't care about proper framing/composition. probably 90% of the pictures i see even from dslr's are crap. basically, a good camera a good photographer doesn't make. however, a good photographer would use a good camera because they're way better than a camera phone lol.

Some photographers would argue with that. They say that a good photographer can shoot good pictures even with a camera phone. There was this article I read about this photographer doing that challenge of using only an iphone camera to do a whole fashion magazine photo shoot.
Of course they prefer a nice camera, just like anyone would prefer using something nicer even if they don't need it.
