Buy camera online and ship to hotel in states or buy locally

So we're going to disneyland in 3 weeks, and i was thinking of buying a new point and shoot (either the LX7 or RX100). The camera i'm looking at is like $50-100 cheaper online and free shipping in the states compared to a local store here.

Since we're going to be in the states anyways, i was thinking of ordering it online and shipping it to the hotel to save money. But i was thinking and it's pretty expensive so i'm not sure if i want to risk something happening, like if the shipment doesn't get there in time or it gets lost in the mail or it's DOA.

What say you? would you chance it to save $150 (because tax sucks here), or just buy it locally for peace of mind?

ship stuff to hotels all the time. As long as you coordinate the package to arrive plus minus 1 day of your arrival your fine. They'll hold it for you at guest services.

yea, i don't mind shipping to the hotel, just that i'm not sure if i wanna do it for such an expensive item... if it was like a $50-100 item, sure, but if i do end up getting the rx100, that's like $700... that's a lotta money to some people...

3 weeks at one place seems like a pretty good buffer in terms of scheduling. if you have problem with the product upon arrival, i would think that warranty should cover for it. you can add shipping insurance too if you want to be extra safe.

maybe if it's generally cheaper in the states you can find it in a local store near where you are staying and just buy it there too.

he's not staying there for three weeks, he's going there IN three weeks.

i think it depends on the hotel. if it's a nicer one, i'm pretty sure they get stuff shipped there all the time, and they have a lot more to lose if a customer isn't happy, so i'd think it'd be safe. if it's a crappy one, i'd be a bit more worried, however i still think it'd be relatively safe as they probably won't know what's in the package anyway.

It's at Bestbuy in the US for $650. sometimes you can find a coupon for 10% off. The lens on that thing is huge compared to other point and shoots.

thanks for the tip, but i bought it over the weekend locally. Probably could've saved $85+ by shipping it in the states but i didn't really want to chance it.

It's a pretty awesome camera btw... the only thing i wish the camera did better was maintain a wider aperture at the far end of the zoom. the f-stop drops off pretty quick the moment you start zooming.

more specifically, a combo of lens aperture and sensor, but that's probably what you were referring to anyways.

but yea, phone cams will never compare, but 95% of the population out there really only wanna snap pics to put on fb or instagram anyways. Phones are fine for that. But for me, i want to take quality pictures of my family that i can print. I don't want no crappy pixelated prints in my photo album.

took the cam out last night while going to the driving range with alicia and hayden. even alicia took crisp pics w/o the flash at 8:00 at night. love this cam
