i always thought it was because you guys are ok financially. you have 200+ members and you pay your pastors squat lol.

actually, we're running a pretty considerable deficit this year apparently... and that's not including the 20k it cost to dig up the front yard because an old oil tank that was used way back to heat the church started leaking... wtf eh?

joe said that there are roughly something like 280 registered members at NL and if everyone offers an extra $400, it'd cover our deficit and the cost of digging up the front yard... it's a pretty grim picture at NL right now financially... and i wonder if that 280 count is including kids who dont work and elderly who are on fixed incomes... probably does.. i'd say you could probably only look at 100-150 NL members who actually work full time

the 280 count should only be baptised members. there are people who attend and give that aren't members. but there are also about 40% of that 280 count that probably don't even attend.

that's just a general rule of thumb in most churches. attendance is hardly anything like membership count.

yea, tell that to joe who has already broken down the $400 number... i'd probably say that the "active" members have to offer $1000 extra each...

don't forget that you could have attenders that aren't members too.

yea, but i have a feeling they're less inclined to tithe...

maybe i should start another thread for this but that just wouldn't feel right coming from me...

anyways, i know there's the general "10%" rule that's mentioned nowhere in the bible, but what i'm curious about is what do you think that 10% is? pre or post tax dollars? and i know the idea in tithing is giving the best of what you can to God and the percentage is moot, but for the sake of this convo, what do you think it should be?
