should be a separate promo. You might've seen the two bundled together somewhere else though. i did get office 2010 for $35 or so because of alicia's discount. I've installed it onto all my comps. If you want office 2010 i can burn you a copy.

So here's something that happened to me at work today... true story:

We have dual monitors set up at work here. The video card is only one port, so the second monitor is hooked up via USB adapter.
This morning, my second monitor died (the one being hooked up via USB). I called in a tech support ticket.

Tech comes and I tell him that my monitor is dead. It happens a lot because we bought cheap-arse monitors.

The tech goes away, comes back with 2 of those USB adapters. Swaps the old adapter out and puts a new one in, still not working. Tries again with the other one, still not working. Then he says he'll find more adapters and try again...

1 hour later, he comes up with a big box full of maybe around 20 adapters. He's about to start to try them all. I tell him I'm sure it's a monitor problem... wouldn't an easier way to find out be to plug the bad monitor directly into the VGA port of the video card?

He did, and still didn't work... voila, I saved him 20 minutes. At the same time - *face palm*

that's why desktop support guys are bottom feeders in the tech world... basically guys who tinker with their own desktops at home and call themselves experts... guys who couldn't make it in development but still wanted to work with computers...

sorry, that was kinda mean, but proof is in the average salary pudding...

Haha, yeah there's that...
But also, it's just about thinking logically.

Another way around having to try 20 of those USB adapters is to get a known working USB adapter and try that instead of 20 unknown adapters.

Those Vulcans are onto something with their logic and stuff... no wonder they make such good tech guys.

sometimes i don't bother asking our desktop support guy to fix something on my machine... i just fix it myself... so much faster and less headache...

And what's with companies doing dual monitors by using usb adapters plus software or dvi splitters? my company doesn't add a dual monitor capable video card either. They use Matrox splitters like these .

It makes no sense to me. These things aren't cheap either. You could easily just slot a new graphics card in the desktop for $100 and have dual monitors that way. Software controlled dual monitors are always so glitchy. It took the desktop guy like a whole day to install my dual unit because the resolution was screwy and i found out that these things only supported 16bit colour and not 32-bit... wtf... dumbasses...

i wonder if it's because it violates their pc leases to add hardware into the desktops... but it shouldn't because we upgraded the ram and stuff too... i dunno... lamez
