twiddle your thumbs, that's always good for about 9 seconds.

I ended up staying in the office for half a day plus 1 hour on Dec 24th. I twiddled my thumbs, but it only lasted 3 seconds before they got chaffed. I also ran out of hand cream.

I find that using hand cream would only add friction and resistance to the skin, so it doesn't help with thumb twiddling at all. My thumbs would always get kind of stuck when they have cream on them.

yeah, over twiddling will do that to a thumb.
