The safety system they had was totally crap. He had a hook that he just hung onto a small foothold every few steps... it looks like if he slipped, the hook could easily come off the foothold. Plus, he was always taking it off so he could go higher! He should've had a system where he used 2 hooks, so one is always hooked on. That's how mountain climbers do it.

I would've imagined that if you needed to go to the top of that tower to fix something, they would've sent a helicopter up there.

If OSHA said it was safe, then it's all good. OSHA is the american version of WCB. The video did say if they had a safety harness it would take too long. It's all about getting to the top as fast as you can. They probably have competitions on seeing who can get up there the fastest.

helicopters wouldn't work because it'd be too windy. it'd be impossible to keep the helicopter and/or guy steady enough to fix anything.

well, unless the helicopter was flying like a km higher than the tower, but i'd imagine that would be outer space.

No I meant that the helicopter could drop the guy off on the top of the tower.. Not for the guy to be dangling off the helicopter while he's fixing it. That'd be even more dangerous than the climbing haha

i guess they could do that. just as long as he doesn't land right on the antenna. i'd imagine that'd hurt a little.
