i got a pay raise around the same time hst went up.. so didn't really stop going out to eat..

also I got a george foreman grill at work, so i've been cooking alot for lunch instead of eating out.. does that count?

but you didn't get the george foreman because of the hst though, you got it for health and body building reasons (and convenience).

i think before the hst came, people were complaining and saying that no one's going to go out to eat anymore, and it turned out that business was exactly the same as before, most people didn't even notice the difference.

We eat out a lot less now.... partially because of Reagan, but partially because of the HST though. It's just ridiculous if you think about it. Having a published price and, depending on the service level, paying an extra 27% more than said published price. Then again, even when it was 20%, that's still pretty silly if you ask me.

ok, maybe there are cases here and there, and i guess i can't say for sure that NO ONE stopped going out to eat because of the hst.
but there were a few articles that i read concerning the hst saying that statistically, restaurant business was unchanged by the hst. so if you guys are eating out less, there are some people who are eating out more.

after looking at gordon's calculations, i'm think what they should do instead of increasing minimum wage is to disallow full time employees to be paid minimum wage.

if you think about it, most of the part timers are students or kids living with their parents. their jobs aren't necessarily to help them survive, but to teach them responsibility. if they're good at what they do, then go ahead and give them a raise.

if they're full time, then they're probably living off of what they're making, in which case they probably need more to survive. i wouldn't have a problem with helping those who are struggling to make ends meet.

I think there are some people who wouldn't mind getting a full time job, even if it pays only $8/hour. Not sure if raising the minimum wage will help with keeping people out of poverty though. If an employer has to pay more for a minimum wage position, I suspect they might be pickier in who they choose for the job.

i would hate having a full time job that pays $8 an hour. that's basically just enough to live off of, no savings.
