funny things i saw on my way to work

even though my commute is usually less than 10 minutes, it sometimes is the most entertaining 10 minutes of my day.

today on my way to work, i saw this little kid walking up patterson with his dad facing away from me. hm, that kid seems to be more waddling than walking. as i got closer, i noticed that his pants were SUPER baggy (you know, like a gangster) and the crotch of his pants was probably almost down to his knees. someone should tell that kid that his pants are too big. as i got closer still, i saw a steady stream of pee come out of the kid onto the nearby lawn WHILE his dad kept dragging him on. peeing while walking, that's something i have yet to master.

then when i realised i forgot something at home and turned around, i saw this middle aged fellow on a mountain bike dart out onto smith. that's pretty dangerous i thought, he didn't even make sure that there were no cars out there. he was up off his seat and leaned forward like he was in a huge rush. as i got closer i noticed that he wasn't leaning forward, but his front wheel was actually a kid's bmx wheel (it was pretty small) while his rear wheel was a regular mountain bike sized wheel. that bike had some serious rake.

Some funny things I've seen.. not necessarily on my commute to/from work though:

While in Chinatown with parents, I was waiting outside of one of the grocery stores for them to finish shopping. I was just looking around at stuff, keeping myself entertained. I was looking at the cars parked on the street, and then I saw this old lady walk onto the street next to the curb where cars usually park. She just kind of walked there slowly and paused, and I was wondering wth she was doing. Then I saw her pull her pants down to her ankles and squat all in one quick, fluid motion. She was facing away from me, but what I saw next was pretty disturbing... she didn't just pee, she pood on right there on the spot. That wasn't the funny part.. actually it was pretty disturbing. The funny part was, it was a pretty crowded street and a lot of other people saw that happen too but I was the only one who seemed shocked by it.

Your kid peeing story reminded me of one I saw too.

Also not a commute story, but it happened at work (at the rental apartments). I was walking through the courtyard between two apartment buildings and from afar, I saw this lady carrying a kid (maybe 3 or 4 years old). I saw them from behind, and they were in a really weird position. I thought the lady was holding her kid down or something, but there was no struggling. When I got closer, I saw what was going on.. she was holding her kid up by the armpits while she peed next to the bushes. So, the kid was suspended in midair with her pants down and in a squatting position with a stream of pee coming out. Why the lady had to hold the kid up instead of letting her squat on her own was beyond me. When I saw this, I yelled out at her and asked her wth she was doing and that she shouldn't get the heck out of there. When she heard me yell, she got scared and started to scuttle out of there quickly.. but her kid wasn't done peeing yet, so she got a lot of pee all over her shoes and pant legs. She dropped the kid and quickly pulled the kids pants up.. the lady got out of there pretty quick, so I'm not sure if the kid was done peeing yet or not. I'm guessing not, because the kid started crying.

Okay, this part was actually on my commute home from work. Coleen saw this too because we were carpooling at the time.

Imagine Westminster Highway, rural Richmond area. Lots of cars, but only 1 lane traffic each direction. Going down the highway at 80 km/h and from far away, I saw a few people standing on the side of the road wearing hats. Getting closer, I saw they were straw hats. Getting even closer, I saw they were tiny old asian ladies. Finally when we passed by, I saw they were 3 tiny old asian ladies with big straw hats and carrying bags on sticks and just standing there as if they were waiting for a ride. It looked like they just finished working on a rice plantation in China, and it was the oddest out of environment image I've ever seen. Here's what they kind of reminded me of

today as i was driving up patterson i saw some lady talking on the phone. sounds pretty regular enough, but she had one of those folding cases for the iphones, you know those ones that have a flap that cover the screen and fold forward when you want to use it. anyway, her case was yellow, and the flap part was dangling in front of her mouth.

banana phone, anyone? i seriously thought she was talking into a banana.

I heard the google street view car is an Impreza this time.

it wasn't an impreza... i drove by it pretty quick before i realised what it was because it was waiting to turn onto smith when i passed by it while driving on smith... it was a wagon or a hatchback of somesort... i'd like to say it was a prius but i'm not 100% sure.. i'm pretty sure it wasn't an impreza though
