He wouldn't need to torch it to sell to a developer... he just has to kick out all the tenants. It would probably be more of a hassle dealing with the possible lawsuits from the tenants since his building didn't meet fire safety codes.

it's faster to get the tenants out by burning it down.
from what i understood, what didn't meet code was structural, so you can't change it. it still had the fire alarms and exits in order. sprinklers are only mandated on newer buildings, which this one is not.

however, that's just from what i understand.

so i drove by the site last week thinking that they opened up the street but they didn't. I was driving up the back street because it was a shortcut i usually take, so since i was there anyways, i took a pic of the building thinking of my forum friends and this thread

basically looks like the whole back portion is gone

anyways, they've demo'd the site so this is what it looked like before the rest of it was torn down

whoa, didn't think my pic was that huge... oh well... just right mouse click on the pick and do the view image in the browser, that should resize the image based on your browser window

i bet there were people going in trying to get their stuff (probably dudes retrieving their hard drives for... homework), so they tore it down quickly.
