really? my rims were pretty good, and they have a LOT of spokes (i think around 16) with varying angles (some weird thing vw has been doing).

but it's true, my golf is pretty smooth throughout. i told winnie that her mazda is actually easier to hand wash because there are so many panels and various other markers to tell me what has been done and what wasn't, while my car seems to be one large panel and i just have to be thorough enough.

the back of my car was the worst. It totally missed 6 inches under the spoiler for obvious reasons, and around the rear plate. But the most surprising areas were the vertical edges around my hatch. They were missed pretty badly and they're totally just there in the open.

and yea, same with G, my side mirrors were missed but pretty much because the dude pushed my mirrors in.

yeah all mirrors have to be pushed in. i was actually surprised how clean mine were in spite of that. well, except the actual glass part of the mirror, but the entire housing and the window behind the pushed in mirror were clean.

the worst parts for my car were the license plate recess and the emblem on the hatch (and the license place itself for some strange reason). there were the obvious nooks and crannies that were still dirty, but you'd actually have to look to see them. i think the rear of the car would always be the hardest. if i were to design and automated carwash like that, i'd either have it so the car moves backwards (or even stationary) for a time just to avoid those missed spots.

i was thinking that on average, you'll probably have 1 car get a wash every 10 minutes. Obviously peak times you'll have 1 car every minute or so, but other times like the middle of the night (unless you have poker problems like us), there'll be no cars going through the wash. so that's 6 cars an hour multiplied by 24hrs in a day multiplied by 365 days a year multiplied by roughly $8 per wash = $420,480/yr.... obviously there are expenses like maintenance and wages for the attendant and supplies (soap), and hydro... but man, that's a pretty big chunka change just for a carwash... and i think 6 cars an hour (144 a day) is pretty conservative... they probably average closer to 250 cars a day... and on sunnier days in the summer, probably like 500/day...

i have a feeling the maintenance on something like that would be pretty high. also don't forget the lease of the land.
it'd be more profitable to have one of those hand wash places that charge $20 a pop but only pay their employees refugee wages.

i read that in toronto these automated car washes have season passes, so some enthusiasts go every day. if a season pass could be had for anywhere under $150 (around 20 washes i guess that would work out to be) i'd totally be down.

Which car company was offering free car washes at their dealerships?

I think if someone built one of these in a major city in China it would do well. Everyone there has a clean car, they wash it every other day.

yea, there's the lease on the land too, but i don't think it'd be that much money. the piece of property was pretty lame prior so i image it's not a gigantic amount.

don't use ur own money, use the banks money. There's lots of land available in china, some are dirt cheap, some will cost you an arm and a leg. A buddy is building a new town centre on 20 acres of land in a new booming town with lots of TW expats.
