America shutting down government

Maybe i'm a little ignorant on the topic. Is this similar or same as Canada as when we porogue the parliment?

If so, not sure why everyone is making such a fuss about it.

Anyone who is a little more politically inclined care to elaborate?

This is basically a pissing match between the Republicans and Democrats over the Obamacare bill.

The US government is shut down because the two sides of the government can't agree on a budget spending plan. This budget spending plan must be passed before funding can be dispersed. Since Obamacare is such a huge factor in this term's budget, there has been a huge disagreement in the budget, which is causing the budget to not be passed.

Budget must be passed before money can be released to be paid to gov't workers.
Budget has still not been passed, and deadline is over now, so money is held. Workers pulled off job since there's no money flowing.

From what I've been reading, it's everything. That's why it's such a big deal.

Emergency services are still getting paid, but non-emergency staff are all off work now.

Emergency staff includes the military, of course.

i read it was just like a billion being withheld. i can't imagine all those employees only getting paid a billion total.
but then, i didn't actually read the article. does this mean that the whole country is on lockdown?

I got an email from Energy star that they are suspending all applications and certifications as they are shut down. Border guards are working without pay, so they are in no rush to process ppl through.
