The future of Canada Post

I buy stuff online once in a while, and when I was working at the office, I would just get the delivery notice in my mailbox and I would have to go pick up the package at the nearest post office. I was fine with that because I wasn't home. Since I started working from home more often, I thought it would be great that I could get packages at home now and I wouldn't have to pick it up.

It didn't happen though. The postie just automatically puts a delivery notice in my mailbox to pick up packages, no attempt to deliver at all. Apparently, they have a different delivery standards policy for community mailboxes (apartment buildings). So, long story short, this is their policy on parcel deliveries (that require no signature) to community mailboxes, and this will affect everyone because they're implementing community mailboxes everywhere in Canada.

Basically, they won't deliver to your door if your house is more than 500m from the community mailbox area.

they don't deliver to our house now. one day i walked into the house at around 12:30. by habit i check the mail, and the box was empty. i left again about an hour later and checked the box again (out of habit) and there was a "failed to deliver" notice on the door. there was no doorbell ring, no knock, no anything. and there was no way that i couldn't have heard, as i was just in the living room the whole time. i think it takes too long for them to wait for you to open the door, so they don't bother. it's much quicker to run up to the door, drop the notice, and run off.

That's just a lazy postie. You can complain about that to Canada Post now, but later when the community mailboxes are implemented, that will be standard practice.

i don't mind the community mailbox. it's what we had when we lived in surrey. it was nice because they had a recycling thing right there for all the unwanted flyers, and for some flyers you had to grab yourself even because they were just in a pile beside the box.
