How ultimate are they?

the high end ones (much like most of the other earbuds in this range) have to be professionally molded to your ear. i think you go to some place and they create a mold which you send to to them and they send you the earbuds molded to your ear. they supposed to be hardcore, but as with all high end gear there are major diminishing returns. especially if you are just plugging it into an iphone/ipod.

i've used sennheiser for a while. i also have a sennheiser headset for online gaming which was pretty awesome. you can get them for pretty cheap if you wait for sales.

there's hid def sound files you can d/l... but yea, mp3 players aren't the best for sound quality

i was talking about ipods. there are others that push 256kbs that aren't as popular as ipods. creative's mp3 player, for instance lol.
