so my colleague couple (male and female) out in winnipeg who are strong feminists have been on this huge "feminist-article-posting" kick. they were big proponents of that #yesallwoman fiasco and keep saying that men have to grow up. well, it grinds my gears.
today, he posted this:

what a load of crap. she EVEN SAYS that the dude didn't do anything wrong, but all of a sudden, women are to be treated differently? at the end she said she didn't do anything wrong, i beg to differ. she did something totally f*cking wrong in thinking that someone innocently wanting a running partner could possibly be a sadistic sex offending rapist. how is that different from me walking beside a black guy and thinking that he's a gangster and has a gun pointed at me or even walking with an asian guy and think he's going to karate chop me in the balls?

seriously, how the f*ck is he supposed to know that she's uncomfortable if she doesn't say anything? sure, it took him a while to get the hint, but he got it eventually. is it men's fault that she's being so paranoid? men's fault that she sees men this way? no, it's FEMINIST WOMEN who feed this bullsh*t to other women.

I disagree.
Although her smile may have been flirty and may have 'led him on' or whatever, I would find being followed (stalked?) by a complete stranger for half an hour despite my efforts to 'lose' them, to be rather unnerving. If he was just looking for a running partner, at the very least he should have introduced himself, giving her an opportunity to say, "Thanks, but no thanks."

How would you feel if some guy stared at your ass for half an hour without even saying hi?

But maybe I'm weird. I found it troubling driving my car home from Metrotown having a cop follow me right to my front door... then park.

I misread part of the article. I guess he only followed her for a kilometer. I thought he followed her for 3 miles. Still, he should have at least said hi.

sure, it's weird. it's also weird when girls do that to guys (it happens to me, believe it or not). but i'm not going to go write an article about it and hope that people learn some sort of lesson.

there are many variables that could or could not have happened that she chose not to include to paint this picture of a stalker. maybe he did say hi. maybe she had headphones on. maybe every time he trailed behind her, she would turn around as though to invite him to catch up. i don't know. what i do know is that if he were out to rape her, he probably would have and a quick turn around at a fire hydrant wouldn't have deterred him.

basically, what i read is "i'm irrationally afraid of men that i don't know, so men, can you please grow up and understand how hard it is for me as a woman?"

Now that I think about it (don't ask me why I'm still thinking about it... I need a job), if he really was a cyclist all decked out in cycling gear, he was probably wearing roadie shoes. An 11:00/mile pace in roadie shoes could very well be a challenge for him. Also, he would have looked like a little princess ballerina doing so. Kinda wish I was there with a camera. (Remembering Drew at the RTCC. haha)

that's what i was wondering too. where did he stash his bike? his helmet? his shoes? was it even the same guy? how did he stash his bike, change, and then catch up to her on her route? this story has more plot holes than waterworld, starring the talented mel gibson.
