there are many naysayers though, and to be honest i think it's them (not the company) that is the demise of blackberry.
bb10 could kick ass but the haters have to keep putting blackberry down in hopes that their reputation and past predictions of blackberry may not be tarnished (imho). the way i see it, people have been sh!tting on blackberry for so long, that once bb puts out a good product (which i really think they did with my last two phones, bolds 9780 and 9900), they have to keep sh!tting on them or else they'll be seen as hypocrites or fools who don't know what they're talking about. unfortunately, the masses listen to these few, and continue on their love affair with ios and android.
to be honest, i don't think half the iphone/android users actually know what blackberries are capable of or what their phones aren't capable of. they only say blackberry is crap because they don't have one. of course, there are the educated few that chose ios or android over bbos, and that's fine with me. but it's those who haven't even tried it but put it down anyway that are annoying.
case in point: a guy a church LOVES his iphone. what did he use before that? a land line. when we had the congregation over at our place a few weeks ago, he asked me what my address was. i told him. he pulled it up on google maps on his iphone and showed me the picture. he said, "see? my phone can do everything". i didn't have the heart that all the other smartphones out there could do that too, including my blackberry that he openly hates on all the time.
and i see this in the professional world too. article after article, authors say crap about blackberry that isn't even true. they talk about "lackluster" support for the company and "little to no excitement", but fail to mention what i said above about phones being sold out everywhere. they ignore the fact that blackberry is widely used in all parts of the world except north america (and antarctica) and how the playbook outsold the ipad in the uk and especially how apple stock isn't doing so well.
but again, i know some users have used bb's and chose another platform over it and that's fine. however, i don't think all of them have, at least if they did, it was a few years ago (an eternity when it comes to technology) when blackberries were admittedly sucking pretty bad. but they continue to compare their current device with its latest os installment to a memory of a phone that didn't have apps when apps just became popular.
wow, that rant was more than i had initially intended. i think i'm just trying to procrastinate from writing this annual report.
