so when i got my golf the previous owner left his garage door remote in it. i emailed him and asked him what he wanted to do, but he ignored me.

soo.... i'm trying to program our garage door opener to work with this remote, might as well make use of the thing. but the problem is that it won't work!! i know how to do it, i accidentally erased winnie's and kitty's remotes but i was able to successfully reprogram them. i changed the battery on my remote and still nothing.

the remote is steelcraft and the opener is liftmaster. google tells me that steelcraft is actually MADE for liftmaster, so i figured it should work. is there anything i can check to see if the remote is even functional? or did i just waste $5 on a battery?

is it drawing power?

how would i check that on a remote?

ammeter/multimeter if you have one.

i have a cheap one that basically only lights up.

however, i don't know how to use it lol. i did some searching around and i think i'm coming to the conclusion that this garage door remote just isn't compatible with the opener unit that we have. lame.
