So most of you who are on my msn messenger list probably got spammed last week. Somehow my hotmail email got hacked and all my contacts were spammed. I figured changing the password would be good enough but i guess msn a couple days later decided to lock my account out. GHEY... now i can't access my hotmail or even log into messenger... i logged a case with customer service but they have yet to reset my password for me...

same thing happened to me a few months ago. i don't think it was a hacker as much as i think it was just a trojan of sorts.
i never use that account anymore, so i just went into my account and deleted all my contacts. if it happens again then no one will be affected.

When it happened to me, I went as far as deleting all my contacts and old emails in my hotmail account. I figured I didn't use my hotmail account anymore anyway, so who cares. What I didn't know was, the contact list in hotmail is linked to the contact list in messenger, so I lost everything on messenger too.

that's why i don't use my hotmail for my msn. the old version of msn told you whenever you got an email, and by then i didn't use my hotmail and all i got there was spam. it sucked. so i switch accounts.

I rarely get hacked or virus.. dunno how everyone gets them so easily..

Well, i don't think it was a trojan or virus because i have like 3 different security apps running at once and i did a scan the day after and my system was clean. It could've been something alicia d/led or clicked though... she seems to fancy these lame 2d online games that ask you install activex controls to play... ghey... either way, i'm considering canning my hotmail account altogether... but my msn list is on there... i wanna at least reactivate my account to get the contacts i actually talk to and recreate a new messenger login

could have been alicia. i got the spams from her before i got them from you.

what malware software you using?

i'm using a combination of Malwarebytes, Nod32, and for a while i was using Zone alarm, but i d/led a new Nod32 that had a decent firewall system so stopped using that...

I just got one from Jen Lee. This morning on the forums, I saw "Bing [Bot]" logged into the forums, but there is no Bing [Bot] registered as a user on here.... weird.

Anyway, I don't think it could necessarily be a virus. There are people who get paid to sit at their computers and run password hacking tools on email accounts that they get from marketing lists or wherever. Best way to avoid that type of hacking is to come up with a strong password and don't use those stupid email recovery questions like "What's your mother's maiden name".

I changed my password to have uppercase and lowercase letters plus some numbers and special characters. It looks something like gHeY8$$!

or everyone can just stop using email addresses like hotmail, yahoo, gmail, and the like.

yeah, i got one from joe just now too. i seem to have been getting a lot lately, all from hotmail accounts.

I haven't had any problems with gmail. Actually, my telus email got hacked once.

Yeah... I think there's some flaw in hotmail's password recovery tool.

With gmail, it logs your IP address each time you login and if you login from home, then all of a sudden 2 minutes later, you login from an IP in Asia, gmail will lock up your account.
