So I'll need to setup TV, Internet and phone (optional) at my new place.
I hear about some new customer deal thats like dirt cheap for 6 months, how do i get this? I'm on their website and cant find anything excep the regular bundles.
I dont really need a phone, mostly just internet and a basic TV package.
Give me the infos
also, how long do they take before they get around to hooking your stuff up? like the day after? week after?

who is "their"?
i can only comment on shaw vs telus... speed and less headache go for shaw... otherwise telus. if it's just you and one other person sharing the internet/tv, then telus. even though i loathe them, their telus optik is kinda built for the bachelor or two person arrangement. It's much cheaper than shaw too. The only neat thing that i wish shaw had that telus offers is the ability to set a recording from your phone or the internet while you're away from home.
That being said, i'd probably go with shaw when i move out...
I think telus has some intro deals that are pretty cheap. I'm sure if you call into their customer service they can hook you up with something.

Shaw and Telus usually sends me promo letters in the mail... only if I'm not already hooked up with them though. They have location specific discount codes on them though.
Check redflagdeals... they usually have people talking about those deals in their forums.

just call the company that you want to deal with and ask them if they have anything going on for new customers. get the info, then call the competing company and tell them what you were offered and if they can beat it. if they can, then call original company and see if they can beat it. repeat until desirable deal is made.
being a new customer gives you an advantage because you don't have loyalties as of yet. and they'll want your loyalty.

most the advertised prices on the shaw site only apply for a limited time.. if you read the fine print it tells you how long and what the actual cost is.
not sure about telus, but shaw service is no contract so you can cancel anytime... you may get cheaper service with a company if you contract for like 2 years just like with mobile companies... i think i remember shaw setting up stuff within a week i requested service. but it was a completely new installation/new building... with an existing building they may not even have to come on site.. they may be able to do everything over the phone.

i thought with shaw they have to come to change those filters on the cables that fynn likes to illegally just take off.

The filters are for the premium channels. If it's just basic TV, then they don't have to remove the filter.
Also, I think with the new digital TV system, the filters are built straight into the receiver box so they can activate it over the phone.

really? i guess that makes sense.
fynn did say that removing the filters still works for the hd channels though. i don't know thought because i never tried it (at this house).

Removing the filter doesn't give you HD, but gives you all the regular channels. On shaw you get upto channel 60 or something.

You get the basic channels in HD regardless anyway. Even with the most basic package, you'll get the HD basic channels, but you just have to have the HD receiver.

i guess not all channels (like up to 60 or something) are shown in hd. if they were, i suppose removing the filter would get you those?

No, it doesn't seem like it. The physical filter only affects regular digital channels. The receiver box has an internal filter for the premium channels and premium HD channels.

ended up getting a 6 month promo, high speed extreme and 3 tier digital cable package for like 79 bucks or something.
after 6 months i'm gonna switch to the regular high speed and basic cable for about the same price.
