Just adds to my dislike of all these legacy Crown Corps from the SoCred days.

I've always found it kind of odd and a waste of dollars that BC Ferries would need adds at canucks games........
I mean... dont people who use Ferries kinda need to use the ferries? Its almost a monopoly. Why would a monopoly need advertisements to use their products? Sure theres the harbor seaplanes and etc... but they dont transport cars and are a more costly alternative that doesnt even cross the mind of most people..

Its not like I'm going to see a BC ferries ad and go "I guess I should use BC ferries"......

That's what I think too.
But then apparently they have a vacations sales division. I'm sure the bulk of their income comes from the actual ferries though, so blowing so much money on advertising their vacations business is a waste of money.

[sarcasm]BC Ferries is losing money. Ridership is low. Obviously it's because of the high Canadian dollar and not because of the rate hikes. Hahn is clearly worth every penny... every 100,000,000 pennies each year.[/sarcasm]

yea, i really don't understand why bc ferries need ads either... it's almost like icbc putting out ads to drum up more business... icbc do those commercials with that fat chick to try to make themselves look better and "inform" the public why rates are the way they are, but it's not like they need to take out ads to tell people to come to them to get insurance.

BC ferries are such a money suck. Honestly, if the rates weren't so high, i wouldn't mind taking a weekend trip to the island and back. what is it? $40 to drive a car across each way? wtf

$47.25 per car plus $14.25 per adult and $7.25 per kid

For a couple taking a trip to the island, round trip would cost $170

having just come back from the island with a bus full of kids, i can say that it's not cheap (i had to pay about $500 round trip). but i also noticed that the ferries weren't as full as they used to be. maybe they're still trying to pay off the bad decisions they made a few years ago (although i forget what they were).

You mean the fast ferries that we bought overseas instead of from our local manufacturers? Then ended up having to sell them out again for cheaper than what we bought them for because residents complained that they were "too loud"?

Actually, I believe that it was the severe environmental damage that they were doing to our waters because of their huge wakes. That and all the rich people that live off the water were complaining.

Also the fact that BC Ferries realized that they couldn't afford the maintenance on them AFTER THEY PURCHASED THEM ALREADY.

wasn't he getting paid closer to 1 mil? His pension is 300,000, so he has to be making more than 100k.

Actually, I remember reading somewhere that the maintenance costs were really high because they had to import the German manufacturer's techs over here to do the maintenance because none of the local people knew how to fix it.
