Why do women continue to take their smatphone video's in portrait mode? Why is it even an option on smartphones. When's the last time you watched any video in portrait?

Apart from on the wife's phone obviously.

And then when they ask you to post it... "Can't you just crop it?"

Uh... no, but I can open it in Premier and reencode your 20 sec clip... give me 50 mins or so.....................

Just turn your bloody phone to landscape when you record it.... it's not that hard!!!!!!!!!

is it because the video app developers wanted to use the full length of the screen to display the recorded video and wanted it to reflect the same rotation as the captured video?

isnt it even easier just to turn your smart phone sideways and use two hands?

i really know nothing about smartphones... i'm unedumacated...

on the iphone, when you export the portrait video to your pc, it's rendered as a landscape too lol... so you can watch your video on your pc with your head turned 90 degrees haha

you can rotate video with vlc player, but not sure if you can save it that way (as i never had to because all my videos are landscape)

it sounds like the video app should record locked in landscape mode as a default, and require you to modify a setting to capture in portrait mode, even if the full display isnt always used it should stay aligned with the mode of use. (options should be available to lock it to portrait, or auto mode which determine portrait or landscape based on rotation)... but this is only possible if the camera's field of vision is internally cropped and wouldn't really apply if it displays the full extent to what it can capture.

rotating the video post capture doesn't help jai initial problem though...

here's a question though, besides that most displays non-mobile displays are designed in landscape ratio (and more commonly now widescreen), why is portait aligned video generally deemed unacceptable? what's wrong with watching a video with 2/3 of the screen being black bars?

actually, the first vid that winnie took with her iphone was in portrait and her computer played it in portrait with no black bars. but then she uses a mac so maybe they just communicate better.

I guess this is one video that could have been shot in portrait if the user couldn't pan out anymore. But the story is actually the funny bit. It's the annual fireworks in Oban that normally lasts for 20 - 30 minutes. Something went wrong and they all got tripped within a minute.
