so after the lions won the cup, the announcer said that this is like the third time in the past 35 years that a cfl team won the grey cup in their home town. i thought that was weird because i distinctly remember the lions winning here within the last 35 years, so after a little poking around i found this (ok, it wasn't that hard to find but anyway):

turns out the last time the lions won the grey cup at home was in 94. what other major sporting event happened in vancouver in 94?

yea... only 4 times has the grey cup been won by the host team.. and bc has 2 of the 4... and yea, the riots happened then in 94 too... crazy stuff...

i can't wait until the next time the lions play for the grey cup at home. i'd say it'd be time to run for the hills.

well, actually, the lions have hosted the grey cup at least once since 94... if you think about it, there are only 8 teams in the CFL... so they've gotta host at least once every 8 years and between 94 and 2011, is more than 8 years... that being said, the canucks have to make the stanley cup finals first before the lions host.. so it's hard to say when the riot happens.. it's more like this sequence.. vancouver hosts grey cup-->canucks make the SCF-->lose in the SCF-->riot-->lions win...

well, according to the link, vancouver hosted in 99 and 04. not sure how they decide on who hosts, but it doesn't seem like a fair rotation type thing.

nope, it's not a fair rotation, but by no means does one team host 4 times in a span of 10 years or something... it's kinda like a selection/bid process i think

apparently this year's grey cup generated more revenue for the city than any other grey cup vancouver's hosted in the past. not sure why. maybe after the olympics people like vancouver more?

the lions have been actually growing their fanbase more and over over the past 20 years... they're doing a lot better job getting out there in the public eye and tsn's been doing a great job promoting the CFL... it's probably a combination of how well the team has done in the past 10 years plus how well the game's being promoted now

And the 'Nucks actually help out with a lot of cross promo's with the 'Caps and "Lions.

lol whitecaps. i remember watching a game when i was a kid, now i don't even know when the season is.

the caps have moved up too.. .they're in the MLS now.. you're probably like "wtf is the mls and who the eff cares?"... well, it's the league that made so much hub bub when Beckham joined LA Galaxy and decided to play in the States

it's funny that vancouver's football and soccer team seems pretty decent but the canucks suck. that's why i think canuck fans are the best because no one else could be that loyal to such a crappy team.
