Is it true? Are you really happy at your job?

well considering that i just got back from someone's house hearing wartime stories with a nice cup of tea and cinnamon rolls, i'd say it's a pretty good job. sure, the pay isn't that great, but it still puts me in the top 1% of the world. the job is rewarding in its own way, and i'm trying hard to phrase it so the thread jackers won't put a sexual connotation to it and lock the thread.

it's stressful at times, but what job isn't? but i don't know of any other job where people would trust you enough to allow you into their lives. and i don't know of any other job that allows me to be as idiotic as i am and people appreciate that. and i don't know of any other job that allows me to help people with their deepest struggles emotionally, mentally and of course spiritually while maintaining a relationship where i can joke around with them after.

yeah, it's a pretty cool job.

I guess as with any job, you would need to have aspirations for it before you could be happy doing it.

i think that's why the jobs listed as the worst jobs are the worst jobs. they're jobs that people can do, while the happiest jobs are the ones that people are called to do.

i remember in one of my classes we were talking about people's profession and how happy they are in them. and one thing that helped is telling people that they were called to their particular profession at that particular time.

I think mattering is important to job satisfaction. Teachers make a real difference; they can help give somebody a future. Firefighters make a real difference; they can save somebody's life. Psychologists make a difference; they can save somebody's life. They can make a difference in a hands-on way.

Writing computer software which can be used to save some company money? meh, big deal.

that too, i guess. but notice all the happiest ones are paid crap, except for maybe an operating engineer, cause that could be any number of different jobs.
