I don't like how they put those squiggly lines and stuff through the words.. I'm sure that's not how the words look in the book.

using people who want to learn a new language to translate the web for free.

Quite brilliant. Hm... I wonder if they could use the technology to translate documents, say like the Bible, into new languages?

i don't know if they could do that, because they'd need to use context too. there will still have to be an expert on the other end to make sure things make sense.

case in point: online translators. they suck at best lol.

but it'd be uber funny to see something as seriously studied as the bible get translated and read the translation

But i think you should watch the whole video nat. His idea is pretty neat and i think it could actually eventually be used to translate the bible. I suppose not perfectly, but probably much better than the online (or even offline) technology you refer to can do it at the moment. People may have problems with the eventual translation of the bible, but even so, we have how many dozens of different english translations at this very moment that nobody can agree on that is the end all and be all translation.

anyways, i think this is a really cool idea. I like his business model where he uses his technology to contribute to worthy causes while having a sound monetary use case.

if you translate phrases at a time, then i can see it happening. but word for word, then no.

however, i didn't watch the rest of the vid so i don't know if that's what he's talking about.

yea, they're actually translating phrases. Well, to be more precise, in the video, they even translated a whole sentence, and the theory behind it all could probably also apply to whole paragraphs or even chapters of books. It's pretty neat, if you have the extra 10 min, it's worth the watch
