Young people leaving BC for other provinces

i'm thinking it's mostly because of imbalance between living costs (housing/food etc.) and wages. And we all know when these articles talk about "BC", it's really just the lower mainland because the boonie interior cities don't really factor into much lol

There was also the "most liveable" cities rating that just came out too. Vancouver always rates up top, and this year Vancouver was #3 behind Melbourne and Vienna. I guess "most liveable" doesn't account for monetary "cost" of living.

Apparently one of the reasons it was rated as #3 instead of #1 was because of the Malahat. *confused*
Makes you wonder if instead of Vancouver, they actually meant Victoria... or something.

umm, if people are leaving vancouver because of the weather, they wouldn't be going to Calgary or places in Ontario... the weather in Vancouver is the mildest in Canada.

They are leaving for the jobs and the money. Alberta is paying you $15/hour to work at McDs and Starbucks.

I'd rather be lower middle class in vancouver than be upper middle class in an not so aesthically pleasing shit town that houses the calgary flames.

most people that i know that left vancouver is because they couldn't afford housing. if it weren't for the high prices for mortgage/rent, they'd totally live here.
and i think victoria's weather is more mild than vancouver's.

there was also a 4 or 5 part series in the sun about how hard it is to make friends in vancouver. apparently a lot of late 20's-30's aged people come to vancouver and can't meet anyone because everyone already has their group of friends and aren't interested in making new ones. so they go back to where they came from because they're lonely.
