Luckily I don't use bittorrent, but I wonder if they're able to track newsgroups. From what I hear, newsgroups are pretty hard to track.

Big Brother is watching you.
The other day, the Province had an article on thieves stealing tools and sports equipment from construction sites and garages. They caught the guys and left a number to call to identify any tools that might be yours. I had a few tools stolen, so i called.
They inspector called back and said they had been tracking the thieves for awhile, and had a tracking device on their car. They knew exactly all the areas they been too.

I dunno... are they really going to prosecute millions of people? It's taking them over a year just to prosecute 30 out of 100 people from the Stanley Cup riots, and they have clear video evidence from those people.
I'm also thinking... is it illegal to download movies that you already own? Anyone can just go and buy all the DVD's (from bargain bin now, I'm guessing) of the movies they've downloaded and say they just wanted to get an electronic version of their movie to take travelling with them and downloading was easier than converting it.

the article says they're gonna take the american approach and prosecute randoms to set an example for the others on the internetz. There's no way they'll go after all the millions who d/l illegally. They'd tie up the courts until the year 3000.

Yeah, the courts are ALREADY backed up to the hilt with criminals of serious crimes getting off because of the backlog. I think there'd be a serious outcry if people were being prosecuted over this and rapists and murderers were being sent home.
Not saying it's ok to dl illegal content, just saying they really should be setting their priorities on the things that actually matter.

Money talks, and the movie producers have lots of it, or wants lots of it.

i heard they did similar stings in the states with illegal downloading of porn. they fine random people (whether they download porn or not) and say pay up or go to court. who wants to go to court saying that they download porn legally? so most people would just pay.
i wonder if this will be the same kind of deal.
