So alicia finally got an on call gig long enough to qualify for extended health so we're gonna milk it for all it's worth since it's 100% coverage w00t...

anyways, we're gonna go buy new glasses... do you guys have connections or have a place you recommend going that gives pretty good discounts on the ticketed prices on glasses?

probably not gonna go the clearly contacts route because i'm not sure i'm comfortable with buying glasses before i try them on..

you can't claim insurance from clearly contacts unless you're with one of their listed insurance people (blue cross and something else, i forgot). so if her coverage isn't provided by one of them, then you're out of pocket (ask me how i know).

kitty's friend opened up a place on victoria, she may hook you up. she also works at the small place between the parking lot and t&t at metro like once a week.
and although i'd recommend the chinese places in richmond for sunglasses, i wouldn't recommend for actual prescription glasses because they give you fake parts/lenses (again, ask me how i know).

i've paid first and then get my money back with my coverage. i couldn't do it with clearly contacts because i needed a specific signature and number from them, but both of which they couldn't provide (because no optometrist there to sign and no number was issued to them). but if you're with one of the 2 or 3 listed insurance companies, the insurance will pay it first for you. at least, that's how i understand it from the website.

Go to Eye Star in Metro and tell them you want to maximize your insurance claim. They'll work with it, we usually get around 25-30% off. Try Eliza, I feel bad cuz every time we need something small done or adjusted, she's always the one to help us, and she's super friendly and helpful. But every year we go in to make our "buy", my wife always leaves it to the last day and she's never in. We've spent over $9000 in the last 7 years and she hasn't been our sales girl once.

LOL... She'd recognize our faces but really wouldn't know our names. Go see anyone, no big deal, I've already told Coleen to make sure that for this year we make it a point to wait for her to buy.

Andrew used to give me 50% off at Richmond optical. But then again, the eye glass stores mark up like crazy.

yea, we used to go to andrew too but i think he's since turned into a glasses sales rep... last time i checked, he didn't work there anymore unless something's changed

you said you get 100% though dunc? shouldn't it not matter where you go then? just go to any place that has the largest selection and you know are going to give you quality lenses. i'd say white places over asian places.

but there are maximums... alicia's plan covers 100% for up to $300... and my crappy plan is 80% up to $150... i still need to claim my eye exam which cost $90 and we both need to get contacts too. Exam and contacts are pretty fixed cost wise so we'll need to look into getting the best pair of glasses for whatever coverage we have left after those costs. so we basically have $450 to play with... still a lot i understand, but after my eye exam and contacts i'll only have like $250 left for glasses. Which isn't that much when you account for the lenses too.

if you can get coverage from clearly contacts, $250 for glasses is easily doable. you can look online for frames that you like and then go to a store to see how they fit.

getting covered $250 for $200 glasses is better than being covered $250 for $400 glasses.

Andrew's buddy still works there, he can give discounts. The old lady there tho isn't very friendly.
