Here's an article I found which mentions a book I'm reading. Just thought I'd post it and see if anybody had any comments.

i remember reading a study on the differences of male/female behaviour, and how much of it was instilled by their parents who had a preconceived notion of what male/female behaviour should look like.
this seems to back that up.

After reading the article and as I continue to read the book, "The Brain that Changes Itself", I can't help but wonder... In a world where gender* is essentially being obliterated, are we setting ourselves up more and more for a sexually confused generation?

*gender = The roles a society deems acceptable for each of the sexes.

I'm not a parent so take this with a grain of salt, but my opinion is that some parents are as confused as their kids. The fact is, kids are a more or less a blank slate. They'll soak up every little bit of stimulii put in front if them, and in this age of mass media, that's a lot. Adults have a hard time sorting through this bombardment already, and we're mentally filtering out most of it. Imagine what a kid who hasn't built that mental filter is going through. That's where I think parents should be their kid's filter, instead of letting their kids figure it out on their own.

Is it okay for a boy to like pink dresses? Yes, sure it is.

I personally think it's also okay for a parent to say to their boy that boys should like boy things. Not necessarily saying that it's bad to like pink dresses, but that there is a difference between boy and girl things. It just seems so many people are scared to say that these days for fear of offending someone.

yeah, i don't like how those who say the stereotypes are bad go total reverse and say only the non-stereotype is good. if my kid likes to play with firetrucks, chalk it up to him liking firetrucks rather than saying that i planted that thought in him.
