No, I hadn't heard. Sure is awful. We're all just so selfish/self-centered and think of nothing but ourselves, like we're the only ones in the world and everybody else is just cattle.
And it doesn't bother me just because she was high. Drunk, high, putting on make-up, talking on the cellphone, breastfeeding her kid... it's all the same. This attitude where we care about nothing but ourselves and everybody else can just go-off and die really gets to me.
It also pisses me off that they were well known to police. If they were so well known, then why were they out there?
At least they were all 21+ so hopefully they'll get the book thrown at them.
As for the victims:
I can only hope that I would be react in such a manner. I'd probably try and save myself though.
It's amazing that his wife didn't have a miscarriage.

heard about this on the commute in.
pretty freaking messed up. this pisses me off, but it won't piss me off as much to see what the canadian "justice" system does with the driver. i highly doubt they will throw the book at her. that almost never happens in canada.

Happened in Washington state.
I'm sure he tried to save his wife and kids in a last split second effort instead of trying to save everyone in the car including himself........... just saying....
him: OH SH@#$@# A CAR*
*try to swirve out of the way*
*SMASH*
wife: Not everyone lived so therefore his swirve was to save only us and not everyone in the car.

yeah it probably makes sense he tried to save everyone in the car including himself. But his last act did save two lives and that's still heroic in my book.
seeing that 3 lives were lost unnecessarily is one way to look at it and is saddening and maybe even infuriating... but the other way to look at it is to focus on the father/husband's actions and not those of the driver of the other vehicle. He saved two lives and that is one reason to celebrate.
What else is more telling is why do these 3 senseless deaths impact us more than the thousands daily around the world. Why is the death of a caring/loving father more important to us than the death of the neglected homeless junkie? Is his life more valuable than the latter's? The Christian approach says no. But is that really how you feel?
sorry to turn this philsophical... just throwing it out there.

Because hes a bigshot game developer and has more mass appeal, sells more newspapers. Gives the writer a bigger name and more monies.

I think it's because we presume the death of the homeless guy as being the result of his poor life decisions (whether that is the case or not... we don't really care) whereas we see the death of the father in the accident as being the result of the poor life decisions of someone else.
Also, I think maybe this bothers us more than the thousands around the world is because we simply cannot grasp such horrors. We need our horrors in bite size pieces. It's like trying to grasp the holocaust as a whole... it can't be done... or at least not by me. To hear the story of one family that lived through it, on the otherhand, has a great impact on us.
Once you put a name and a face to it, you turn cattle into people.

Because you're already indirectly helping homeless druggies. They gobble up a lot of your tax money.
