You'll still be better off borrowing in Canada if you take the fact that they are experiencing deflation instead of inflation. Me thinks

You might see negative interest rates from Japan in the near future too haha they've done it before

how exactly would japan having deflation effect the currecy exchange rate between japan and canada?

Negative interest rates??? does that mean your debt pays for itself?? Like you burrow money and slowly your debt gets smaller without making any payments???!? Where do i signup for that?

if we borrow japanese money to pay off canadian debt, and pay them back with canadian dollars during a deflation, then we'd have to pay less, no?

Deflation should cause Japanese yen to be more expensive relative to the Canadian dollar over time. So you will be paying more, your canadian dollar will be worth less Yen tomorrow than it is today.

But of course there are a lot of other factors that play a role in exchange rates. You will be exposing yourself to these risks with such large amounts of money though haha..

And regardless, the 0.01% or whatever it was, is just the overnight rate.. not the rate that you would be taking out a mortgage. I think the canadian banking overnight rate is only around 1%
