thinking of giving them a call this thursday and finally negotiate a reasonable plan for joyce and myself.
can you guys give me an idea of what sort of plans you guys have gotten on retention so i have base for what to ask for?
I am not looking for data, just phone/text/callerid/voice. Neither joyce or i usually go anywhere past 200 minutes a month during the day.

Once you get to a retentions rep, they'll actually be very nice about helping you. You tell them what features you need and they'll start listing off packages.
Rule of thumb is that you should be able to get all the following for $25 / month or less.
200 minutes daytime
u/l weeknights & weekends
Caller id / call waiting / voicemail
2500 text.
with one of the following included... you pick
unlimited incoming
u/l fido to fido
u/l canadian long distance
If you don't want one of those, you might be able to squeak in under $18 / month.
If you want all the rules that the C/R team have to follow regarding monthly credit allowance vs base plan price, call me, it's too long to post.

everything you need to know here:
http://www.howardforums.com/forumdisplay.php/48-FidoRead the stickies, theres one where people list their retention deals, and theres one telling you how to negotiate or get through to retentions.
My plan is
200 minutes
UL weekend and evenings at 7
fido to fido
2500 text
caller id, call waiting, enhanced voice mail
no SAF/911/etc
$25 per month
plus 6gig for 30 dollars data ontop
That $25 one is pretty basic and easy to get. If you're good at negotiating, you've been with them forever, willing to sign a contract, and your old bills averaged like $50/60+ then you can probably get more credited.

the retention that gordon negotiated and then i got for winnie after was weird.
basically i got exactly what gordon got for daffy, but they're charging me 7 bucks for voicemail.
winnie has the same thing but no voicemail.
weird stuff. i'm going to wait a month and then give them a call to see what's up.

I'm pretty sure I got you voicemail your plan. They must have set it up wrong.
The $30 data plan for 6gb was a promo offer that's expired now, it was only available during the iphone 4 release.
If you call into customer service, you might get some resistance for getting transferred to the retentions team. Just be persistent in saying that you're a long time customer and that you want to negotiate a better plan or that you friends are on a retentions plan, etc.

are they actually charging you the 7 dollars for voice or is it credited?
They have certain options in their system, sometimes they cant select voice mail for 0 dollars, so what they do is select the $7 voice mail option then give you a $7 credit for it netting 0 dollars.
I know they used to have a 0 dollars caller ID option, but its no longer in their system, so now to get free caller ID it must be credited, and sometimes only on a fixed duration.

for winnie her caller id is credited, and actually so is mine, but voicemail isn't.
i was going to wait for next month's bill to see what's up, but all signs seem to point to me paying that extra 7 bucks.

I tried today. they offered me.
200 minutes
unlimited evening and weekends
2500 texts
caller id + voice mail
for 27.50
which I thought was pretty lame... so i said that i will consider and call back again if i decide with that.

Through a deal with my union, I can get the following with rogers:
$22 / Month
300 Weekday minutes
Unlimited Evenings & Weekend 6pm
Call Display
Voicemail
Unlimited Incoming Text Messages
2500 Outgoing Text Messages
$35 – Activation Fee Waived
Bonus: $280 BILL CREDIT* &
Free Shipping
I didn't mention it to the to the rep i was talking to but i did mention that I had other offers from providers. I said i'd prefer for them to offer me the best deal and then I would compare which was best. maybe i should have just told her about it.

i suggest you tell them that you have this other offer. i think that'll at least tell them that you're serious about jumping ship.
that plan looks a lot like the one i got, except i have fido to fido, which is basically the same plan that gordon listed out above.
i think the absolute cheapest plan you can get is $17 or something, but you don't get much. if you want some other options then it adds a little in price. i think the one they offered is decent, but not as good as the one you can get from your union.
