RFID - What are they thinking??

no seriously, you ever try the self checkout at the metro superstore? a bunch of morons there who think they're "hip" by trying out this "new fangled" technology when they don't know a scanner from a hole in the ground.

this one lady i was waiting after probably took like 15 minutes to figure out the freaking thing, and after she was finally done she had the nerve to steal a HANDFUL of bags. seriously, what are you doing to do with all those bags?

Those self checkouts usually have a couple of staff supervising them. If you take too long, the staff usually comes by and offers to help you out.

There was one time I lined up for the self checkout and this one guy got totally upset and stormed out of the line and told the staff off. Apparently, they had put up a note on each of the self checkout stations that say "12 items or less". The thing is, you won't see that note until after you've lined up for 30 mins and actually get to the checkout station. The guy who got mad did just that, and the staff sent him away and said he had too many items, which was AFTER he lined up and it was his turn already.

So they've got an iPhone Visa dongle in Europe that does RFID... haha. Seems less efficient than the ones built into the card.

i heard about a starbucks app that allows you to pay for your drink from your phone. not sure how that's more efficient or convenient than using cash or debit.

that's why i got rfid blocking in my wallet. (aluminum foil that came with my drivers licence)

building security pass
drivers licence
visa
mastercard

30ft away isn't that unreasonable. when i cross the border that thing scans my drivers licence from pretty far away. 10-15ft for sure.


i see major fail at the self-checkout nearly every time i line up to use one. i'm not sure what is so difficult...

so just putting aluminum foil around you wallet does the trick?

yea pretty much. i've placed my wallet right on the building security scanner and it doesn't read my pass.

i'm not really worried about someone stealing money from me since i don't have any, nor am i worried about someone stealing my identity because they can have it, but maybe i'll line my wallet with some foil.


after that, i'll make a hat in case the aliens come too.
